the Netherlands Application 21n08bd

Full Name: Willem Jansen
Age: 29
Birthday: December 15th
Gender: Male
Hometown: The Hague, the Netherlands

Appearance: The most noticeable thing about the Dutchman is how he seems to tower over most others. He's around 183cm/6'0", with a dirty blonde hairstyle spiked upwards that doesn't help lessen the allusion of his height. His eyes are pale blue, and above his left eyebrow rests an rather decent sized curved scar which he rarely bothers explaining. Willem is rather muscular, even though the doctor's coat he is hardly seen without doesn't really accent that fact. His skin is a bit tan.

Personality: He's very much so a man of few words. Willem is more often quiet than not, not speaking up rarely when he doesn't need to. One of his motivations behind this actually is from his Germanic accent, and he absolutely abhors when people ask him if he's German since his accent is vaguely similar. When he does speak, he often comes off as intimidating and harsh or simply disinterested and vague.

Nowadays, it's not as hard for him to keep his cool as it was back when he was a teenager. But he still has a certain boiling point that will bring out anger from him, and if pushed even further it can even bring out physical violence. His antisocial behavior is due in part to him usually being the superior to other people, so he expects for them to pay attention to everything he says and not talk back. He doesn't enjoy working under or with others, but he somehow usually finds himself having an underling or two.

Even with all of this, he's not really that bad of a guy. He cares a lot more than he tends to ever express, or he'd never of chosen the career he did anyways. As long as someone doesn't grate against his personality he tends to be able to get along fine with them after a bit of initial contact and prefers being neutral in the matter of others fighting or having conflicts. It's been many years since he's been in a fight since he's very aware he has to keep face around everyone.

His hobbies outside of work include painting, drinking, tending to a rather exquisite tulip garden at his home and occasionally delving into the odd illicit substance or two. It isn't that hard to tell by knowing him that he's a rather well-educated man as well as pretty well-versed in the world. When he has vacation time, he enjoys visiting foreign and often exotic places and if you can name a country, he's probably dabbled a bit of time there. He also has a pet rabbit, figuring he needed a reason to come home besides his tulips or he'd just spend all his time at the hospital.

Although he doesn't seem to have much patience for foolishness, he does have a deep weakness for sincere innocence. When someone displays such a quality, he tends to come off as a lot kinder to them since it's not something he really wants to spoil. This is the reasoning behind his intended specialty.

Position: Doctor~
Experience: He's has his residency there, so all in all it's been about two~three years.
Expertise: Working towards a pediatrics specialist.
Other Notes: n/a

History:
Willem was born and grew up in the Netherlands, his father an affluent politician and his mother a socialite. He has two siblings, one of which is a sister he's always had a rather protective streak over. From a young age he was a bit of a prodigy, proving to be rather skilled in art. However he never really much enjoyed painting even though he had a natural talent for it, something that disappointed his parents when he showed no further interest in doing it.

Despite their disappointment he was able to flip through hobbies as he pleased and was allowed to live a rather spoiled upbringing, something that made him grow up without very commendable social skills. Often when he wants something he'll do everything in his power to take it, as well as flat out just not talking and staying quiet most of the time.

At around the age of fifteen, he had a bit of a rough patch with frequently getting into fights due to his nature as well as using drugs and alcohol. It escalated to the point where his father had to pry him out of situations anyone else would of been jailed for. At the age of seventeen, his parents told him to shape up or he'd be thrown out onto the streets with nothing.

Begrudgingly doing such, he entered college when he turned eighteen, eventually opting for pre-med. His motivation behind the decision wasn't really based on anything other than not wanting to follow his father's footsteps--even though he enjoyed the debate part of his occupation--and figuring if he had to put his mind to use, it'd be something he could make good money at.

When he turned 20, he decided to pick up and move to America. The decision was rather sudden, but that was like most things in his life. Since he had already learned English (as well as French and German) the transition wasn't too difficult, and he managed to enter medical school within around half a year. It was while in America that he got the scar on his forehead, thanks to a psychology class he had that had him shadow in a psychiatric hospital, and owing to a belligerent and delusional patient he's not very keen on working with the mentally ill.

Willem finished up medical school, and obtained his MD and continued to work at Axis Memorial while still working on a certification of specialty.

Other Important Info: Nah~. It may be kind of worth noting again that he does know four languages though: Dutch, English, German and French. It's not an uncommon thing in the school system in the Netherlands to be required to take lessons of in total, four languages.

Roleplay Sample:

The memory always brought a bitter smirk to his lips. He was so very glad that his young audience probably didn't recognize the difference in emotion between the sardonic look and a real smile as he crossed one arm across his crisp white jacket and placed his elbow on top, hand reaching up to tap at his forehead.

"This old thing?"

Ah, it was such a pain to crouch down as he always had to when talking to kids. As his finger kept grazing against the raised tan scar, he tried to quietly think. The pediatric ward was usually so filled with tired and tiny faces, yet always with the most hope and excitement contained in their eyes. Every other ward, every tired and old face tended to have a look saying they'd given up long ago.

"It's a long story. Are you sure you'd want to hear?"

As always there were the small nods, and he pursed his lips. The true story behind his scar was such a bloody one, someone with delusions or hallucinations or something he couldn't quite remember having came at him out of nowhere, and it was the only time in a struggle where he hadn't fought back at all. The blood that had seeped down over his eyes had been too traumatizing.

After a long enough moment of the pain clouding his eyes, he looked down when he noticed a small hand prodding him. Snapping out of the stupor he looked at the little blonde girl, sick but smiling and looking worried for him.

When she handed him the band-aid clutched between her fingers, he broke out into a small smile. "Thank you. Now, about the..."

Just as he'd thought he could come up with a convincing story, someone called out for him behind. 'Doctor Jansen' had such a nice ring to it in his ears, even if most people ended up pronouncing it wrong to begin with. After an apologetic murmur of 'maybe next time', he rose back to his feet and prepared to head back to his actual work.

You read the rules, right?: Ahhh I like all colors, though, I can't choose... green? red? orange? <D
Anything else?: Well, I finished this before my reservation was noted but since I was the first I hope this is fine for me to be posting it anyways ahh ;;
and a note about the app, mainly the thing with the painting I was trying to allude to the Dutch golden age... Also tried to keep any information about siblings fairly vague because.. well. that should be a bit more obvious. I hope it's okay ;;
