PostSubject: Flowers and Friendships [Heracles & Matthew]   Sun Aug 22, 2010 6:44 am

((..that's a cheesy title huh?))

Heracles smiled, heading for the bridge. He loved being outside and it was rare that he got the chance to go beyond the hospital's courtyard for fresh air. He was either at work or at home, without time to do anything beyond buy the essentials.

The bridge had to be his favorite part; it over look the water and it was surrounded by flowers and it just made him relax standing on it. He slowed as he approached it, raising an eyebrow at the blond who was already standing there before shrugging. He stood next to the blond, nodding before looking at the water. "Hey." He said, deciding to be polite.

Matthew breathed in the fresh air. It felt good to be outside again. Much better than in the hospital at least. The air there just smelled of anything chemical that they were using to cure the patients. It was necessary, yes, but it didn’t smell nice. The park was a great change from the hospital, and Matthew loved coming there.

He walked around aimlessly for a while, just enjoying being outside for the simplicity of it all. Currently he was walking over a path surrounded by flower. It was a very pretty sight. Then he spotted a nice bridge. Matt made his way over and just stood there for a while, looking out over the water. He didn’t really notice a guy coming to stand next to him until a voice shook him out of his musings. He turned to look at the person who had spoken to him.

“Hey.” He greeted back. The guy looked oddly familiar to him, though he couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before. Probably at the hospital, that was where he spend a great deal of his time now. Matthew directed his gaze towards the water underneath the bridge and the surrounding flowers again. “Nice view, eh?”

He nodded, looking at the blond out of the corner of his eyes. "It is yes." The guy seemed familar, and Heracles was having a bit of trouble placing him. He didn't want to make an assumption and come out of it looking like an ass, but at the same time it was too nice out to try and hold a conversation. Still...

"I'm sorry, but you look really familar. Do I know you from somewhere?" There. That worked for him. Sure, he might end up looking like an ass anyway, but at least he asked. He surpressed a yawn as the wind blew around them.

Matthew faced the guy again as he asked if they knew each other. That… almost sounded like a bad pickup line. And though that would be flattering, Matthew didn’t think that was actually the guy’s intention. And that was for one simple reason: people did tend to forget about him a lot. Even the people he spend a lot of time with would have trouble remembering his name.

“I’m an intern at the Axis Memorial Hospital.” Matthew said, since that was the most logical place where he could’ve seen him. “Maybe you know me from there?”

He looked the guy over again, searching his brain for where he had seen him before. Matthew could vaguely remember someone looking like that in the hospital sometimes. Though they hadn’t met. Maybe just briefly exchanged words about a patient, but no introductions between the two had occurred. But Matthew didn’t even know for sure if this guy was the one from the hospital. The world was big and there were a lot of people who he could confuse him with. So he waited for an answer before drawing any sort of conclusion about it.

Heracles turned a little to face the guy, looking him over. He seemed like one of those wallpaper types; easily looked over unless they somehow brought attention to themself, which they rarely did. Of course, Heracles was quick to remind himself, the guy might not be. After all, everything's not as it seems.

He nodded, smiling slightly. "I work there as one of the nurses. I'm Heracles Karpusi." He held out his hand for the other man to shake. He didn't often interact with the interns, but they were fun to hang around when he did.

Matthew shook the other’s hand. “Matthew Williams. Nice to meet you.” He introduced himself. So this guy was a nurse. No wonder he looked so tired. He had noticed that some of the nurses were really being overworked. And of course there were also the ones who had to work nightshifts. Tiring job. Well, pretty much every job in the hospital could be tiring. Matthew couldn’t count the times he had come back from work exhausted. Looking after patients was a lot of work. It’s worth it though, if you’re making their lives a little better.

“I already thought you looked familiar. How long have you worked there?” Matthew wanted to know, trying to keep up the light conversation.

He nodded, smiling a little. "Nice to meet you as well." He stifled a yawn, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Hm?" He tilted his head to the side as he thought about Matthew's question. "..About six months now. How long have you been interning here?" He wondered.

Matthew thought about the question for a while. “About a year I think.” Was it really that long already? Matthew hadn’t really stood still by how long he had been in the hospital. Time sure went fast when you weren’t paying attention to it.

“Funny how we haven’t met before then.” Since the two of them had both worked at the hospital for a considerable amount of time already. Well, he had seen him around before, but Matthew knew of most of the other doctors and nurses working at the hospital. Nobody seemed to remember Matthew himself though. But at least they were introduced to each other now.

So this guy had been around longer than Heracles had, and the nurse still didn't recognize him? Heracles felt like hittting himself. He should be able to recognize his collegues.

"Yeah..." He said, stifiling a yawn. It wasn't that Matthew was boring, it was that Heracles was beyond tired. He was almost at the point where everything took on this weird dazed sense and he could never be sure if the thngs that happened during those periods were actually real or not.

He smiled at Matthew, straightening up and sticking his hands in his pockets. "Want to get something to eat sometime?" He asked, wanting to get to know the blond better. He seemed like an interesting person and Heracles would have liked to get to know him better right the and there but nothing was coming to mind; he simply couldn't think of what to say.

((Exactly my problem; I don't know what to do next here. And I'm sorry this is super late.))

When the other stifled a yawn, Matthew became a bit worried. He looked down, facing the little river that flowed underneath the bridge they were on. Was he boring the other? Matthew didn’t really think of himself as interesting, so he wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case. Though it did make him feel a bit sad. He wasn’t being noticed often, so why did he have to bore the person that did notice him for once?

Though then Heracles invited him to go out for dinner sometime, which contradicted with his previous thoughts. So he wasn’t really boring the guy? That was good. He was a bit relieved because of that. Maybe the nurse was just tired.

“Sure. I’d like that.” The Canadian said. “When?” It would be nice to get to know one of his colleagues a bit more. Because to be honest, he didn’t really know any of the people in the hospital on a personal level. Not even the doctor he was working under as an intern. Well, he was a bit more friendly with him than with others, but nothing like asking him to go eat somewhere together. So Matthew was glad Heracles had offered him some company.

"Hm..." He thought over it, chewing on the inside of his cheek. He, for some strange reason, had the today and tomorrow off, so he planned to sleep through the night and wake up around noon tomorrow. That plan meant that he wasn't free tonight so.."How about tomorrow night?" He offered, tilting his head to the side. He could of course postpone his sleep plans, but then he would be falling asleep on Matthew and he didn't think the blonde would like that.

Matthew thought about it for a moment. Tomorrow? He had to work tomorrow, but his shift wasn’t as long as usually, so he would have the night off. He would probably be tired, but that was nothing that couldn’t be fixed with an extra cup of coffee. And it wasn’t as if he got a spontaneous offer to go out to eat with someone every day.

So Matthew nodded. “Tomorrow is good.” Though Matthew wasn’t all that familiar with the places you could go to eat something. He’d noticed them as he passed by at times, but he didn’t know where they had nice food. And preferably also not to expensive, cause he didn’t have that much to spend. “Did you have a place in mind?”

"Hm...I know a cheap family restuarant, just a block or so from the hospital. I haven't been there in a while, but the last time I was there the food was pretty good. I could meet you at the hospital and lead the way there?" Cheap good food was the best option Heracles could see. Sure, Matthew was training to be a doctor, but interns did not get doctor's salaries. And nurses, while earning more than interns, didn't make anything close to what doctors made.

Plus, he knew the family that owned the restuarant and they were very nice and super helpful. Not the best of cooks, but they tried and the food generally turned out well enough. The atmosphere of the restuarant was why most people went; it was friendly and warm and inviting. It made one feel like they were part of the family. Heracles pulled himself out of his thoughts and smiled at Matthew, quirking his head to the side slightly. "If that sounds okay?"
